Rake Trim

Does anyone have a good technique for handling situations where new vinyl is going to be bumped out by fan fold insul and will be wider than the rake trim. This would be in cases where there is no over hang so bumping the trim out is not an option. If anyone could post some pics that would be great. Everyone seems to handle this differently.

its definitly a problem area, stripping the wall of original siding or somehow building out the rake which can be done sometimes if you have roof/rake dripedge+1/2".

Are you wrapping the rake board prior to installing the siding ?if so there are several ways to handle it, if not siding removal would be the best bet.

The house has 1X trim. On the older part of the house there are shakes which are going to be removed, on the newer part there is T11 which will be left. In both cases I will be adding 3/8" insul. It seems on some houses folks will let the J stick out past the rake and caulk the seam, I dont think thats anyworse than J around a window?? The house currently has 908 brickmould but they want to have wide casing, im considering using lineals and sills from Crane, Anyone used them before?

Do you have a 1x2 step out where the roof edge covers the rake?If so you can either jump the rest of the rake board and wrap that,or preferably build that down to the bottom of the rake and then wrap.If no step I usually wrap straight down till you hit your J then out 3/4 or whatever it takes to get out over your channel ten turn it down about an inch and hem the bottom. This avoids the caulking issue. You can also use this method with no j in the gable just use the channel you created.I know it doesnt look the best but all you can do is the best ya can with what ya got, without doin some rebuilding!

Another option would be to build out the rake board with a 1x or 2x leaving your build out about 3/4'' below the roof edge, wrap the build out and bend the wrap back up under the roof edge to shed water.

or

i use a van mark break and ive bent some rake with the a channel built/bent in. if your rake is wide on the bottom or if you can "float" it a bit you can build out the rake on the bottom and pack the facia if you want with a real thin strip for support. Cut you foam back a bit from the rake and hem your ends at the mittens for thickness.

hopefully this makes sense to somebody but it works with the overall weight and thicknesses of the bends in the metal. it dosnt ripple much
