Progressive Foam Vs Foam Clad Siding

Progressive foam currently makes all the foam for the foam clad or foam backed siding.

My question is, is there a huge structure difference between the loose progressive foam vs factory clad foam Siding? Besides the price.

No real difference in structure.

the thing i have about foam backed siding is you take the one great thing about vinyl siding,it's great ability to self drain using its open back ''rainscreen'' and then fill that drainage space with foam

i know some have contoured backs on the foam but thats not really the same thing

Hey Tom,

I have been looking at Cranes foam backed. I think I have a new house to use it on. When I did comps between it, regular vinyl, and fc, I think it has some pros. I am slowly going away from fc due to the cracking and shrinking from multiple brands I have used. Any other reason you don't like foam backed vinyl?

Never priced the drop in...don't like the idea of f-in with that on a windy day. Plus one of the pros of the attached is lower expansion.

It is all just vinyl siding hung on a wall that MUST be allowed to move and will admit moisture. It is definitely a moisture barrier, but will shed rains with no wind.

Re: Progressive Foam Vs Foam Clad Siding

I got a big insulated job I am about to order for. I plan to use Prodigy.....but it is $185 a 1 Sq box, no returns, and I am not sold on how it locks together. I priced Charter Oak today with drop in foam, it was a little less expensive, and I can return xtra foam. I talked to some guys who said drop in is easy to use.....and I think it can be used with any 4 1/2" siding.

Just wondering if it really matters which I use.

Thanks!

I do like the Craneboard but the Prodigy is probably the next nicest one in my opinion.

I saw Prodigy once on a HFH house I was doing soffit on . Was not impressed at all, it was the red , but it had bubbles in it and just did not look that great, I am a steel man so it is a little hard to compare vinyl to it specially when steel is about the same price . ( Alside)

I use a drop in foam most all the time either a 3/8 flat or tappered foam.
