Noisy Vinyl Siding

Second Look

House is 6 years old, 2 story and the side yard is wide open to the elements. No trees or other buildings for 50-100 feet. HO says when the wind blows, the siding rattles on the 2nd floor. Would unzipping the siding and adding nails help?

Should be noisy for her now, blowing pretty good outside. The nails should have some play in them so the siding can expand and contract. If the house is wavy then sometimes siders will leave more exposed nail shaft so they do not suck the vinyl into a wavy area........sort of hard to explain. When you look a wall of siding the goal is not to see waves.

Is there foam under the siding or is the siding slapping the existing siding that was never removed?

Not the siding! I place a bet of 10 issues of the Providence Penny Pincher. Go out during the day to see if there are any vents in the area that are flapping around.

I can believe what hes saying about the rattling siding, Ive been in homes like that before new construction with the rattle on the side that gets the wind. Mainly because there is no foam and its the siding hitting the walls with only tyvek on them. The panels are loose to begin with to allow expansion and contraction, perhaps as the house settled over 6 years the walls compressed and now the panels aren't stretched as tight??? further making the situation worse. Ive also seen the wind pop soffit panels up and down making noise. Is it also loud when it rains?
