Need Advice For Siding

I need to re-side my house this year, and need some help making important decisions regarding doing it properly. I plan on selling the house, and want to save some money on the job, but make it look appealing to a buyer as well.

I've always been firmly against vinyl siding. I think it looks cheap, and the seams drive me crazy. I've seen some nice vinyl, but hear it's about as expensive as a better material for the good stuff. I simply can't afford cedar. So, i've targeted using a fiber-cement, or fiber-particle board siding. Are there some good products that are decent materials, yet at a good cost?

I have about 2200-2500 sq.ft. to side and about $7000K to spend for material. Labor is covered, and does not need to be factored into this. But the materials must cover all siding, tyvek, fasteners, soffit-fascia, gutters, insulation, and trim boards.

Also, the existing siding is a very dated particle board that has been referred to as a rascist comment that I will refuse to use here. It's a poor particle wood board that has been taking in water and falling apart. It's about 10-12 inch lap boards with a dated aluminum soffit-fascia. I've been told to fur it out, and go over it since I'm selling the house. But wouldn't I be locking in this old damp, nasty siding to create moisture inside the walls? I thought I should remove it, hang foam insulation, and tyvek. But this may leave me without a nailing surface.

If you guys have any suggestions on materials to use, and what to do with old siding, let me know. thanks.

Take the decomposing material off, use tyvek if you are sure you will get a good job, if not just use insulation, tyvek is expensive and should be run right and tight. You can buy longer siding nails. d55

7k at 20 sq will get you some good quality insulated siding and everything that has to go with it. Crane or Alside.

These are the same thing. Go with a cement fiber and paint it or buy it prefinished. You should be within your material budget with a lap siding or a panel siding. Unfortunately to get the board and batten you will be hating life buying a LOT of azek
