NE Sliders

My sister-in-law called me tonight and is having leakage problems with her sliders. The house is oceanfront in Scituate Harbor, MA. The Nor'easters apparently drive the rain past the door seals on the second floor and the water finds its way down.
Anyone familiar with this? What to do about it? I live in the hurricane zone and have never had this problem. Are sliders up north different from ours? I have had some leakage problems in the past but it always involves waves crashing against them, they are not designed to be watertight when submersed.
Advise anybody?

Teetor are sliders different? Yes. Marvin makes a special hurrican resistant window and door. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. It's not even available in Chicago.
