Make a old barn look commercial?
I've got a repeat customer that wants this barn redone. First, he wants to reside with vertical siding "that looks commercial". He is going to use it for business storage. I've done little vertical siding and don't have any good idea's or websites to look up.
Second the customer wants to eliminate most the windows, "security". OK but that barn is going to be a cave. I want to give him security options for windows like grills, bars.... but again can't find a product that doesn't make the window opening look like Alcatraz.
Anybody out there got some idea's or good links I can explore?

Replace the windows with the ones they spec in Florida, or they have a film that can be applied inside regular windows basically making them unbreakable

Add some skylights or light tunnels and kill most of the windows.

The sun tubes can run from the roof down to the 1st floor they are extremely bright

Thanks for the link. I think that one was more geared to reducing UV rays but I will start looking more, I have never heard of the film. Of course we don't have to worry about those pesky hurricanes up here in Mich.

Yeh I've installed a couple but I think he wants a open deck on 2nd floor for storage and the height might be a issue. But it's not a bad idea

Can you post a print of the barn and what he wants to do it? I assume you have sold him on a design/build contract?

Nothing signed yet. Solid customer. Done residential remodels for him in past. Working on design now, hence my post for idea's. 2nd floor deck pretty straight forward. Only other major framing is a overhead door opening in front. Windows and siding are my design problems. I'm a residential guy by experience not commercial.
Turn in my design and quote Fri.

After viewing the link I should say the customer wants the roof left alone.

You can use a Ribbed color steel siding and put Awning windows set up high. You can also put a fake brick two panels high (panels are 18" high) and steel above that. All windows can be ordered with tem. glass if you want.

I would first check with zoning and the building department...once you go commercial, you are tagged with a whole new set of rules such as sprinkler system.
