LP Smartside experience

Has anyone had any experience installing LP's Smartside engineered ood siding? I have a client that is very interested in this sidng for their new home that we're building. My concern is that LP had a similar product a few years back (The name escapes me right now) but they had extremely high failure rates due to moldissues. Many, many lawsuits and LP was shaking in their boots for quite some time over it. The new "Smartside" is supposed to have a special mold inhibitor and If you go on the website you find very, very detailed installation guidelines. Their Warranty also makes it VERY clear if not installed according to manufacturers recommendations warranty is void. (typical, but they are almost anal about it.) My main siding supplier had a bad experience with the previous stuff and refuses to order their siding. Possiblty the main cause for my concern. (Kind of makes you think twice about it.) I have not found many contractors locally who have used the product in a residential situation, mostly commercial installations as an accent to the building facade. Anyone have any thoughts good or bad?

The main reason for any wood siding failure is because it is "contact applied siding". The best way to preserve a homes structure and new wood siding is to create at a 1/4" airspace behind the exterior cladding materials with a properly installed WRB, along with proper flashing around all opening's and penetrations. Tyvec and Typar Highly suggest furring strips or a RAIN SCREEN product behind all wood and fiber cement siding.

Certainteed Pre-painted

I was wondering thesame thing about a product by Certainteed. I think they call them "weather boards" and they come completly painted. There is a 30 year warranty on the paint, and a 50 year on the board....

I am doing a job right now, and the homeowner thinks this stuff is the dealio..... Any of you out there have any experience with it?
