log cabin vinyl siding

Hello from the midwest,
Where we use vinyl siding to replicate logs?
Have a bid to do on log cabin vinyl siding (labor only) and have never installed it before so had some questions:
Rustic Ridge log cabin vinyl siding made by RMC siding in Fremont OH

info: The stuff (12' pcs) is foam backed and appears to have a profile where it protrudes out from wall about an inch. I see they sell two sizes of J channel, one normal 5/8" and other 1-1/8" to accept the panels. Looks like it locks together like normal vinyl siding with normal nailing hem.

1) I assume you would have to cut with a saw because of the foam and the shape? (similar to cutting vinyl soffit)

2) We have never installed the foam backed siding before let alone foam backed log siding so I am not sure how much longer it is going to take to deal with the siding itself, the foam corners etc? I will allow extra time for this type of installation but if you've dealt with it before maybe you have info on this.

Customer will supply all materials so I am not concerned with that aspect of the job.

Thank you,
Dave C

wev'e put it on before and won't do it again!
the stuff looks to cheap when its all said and done like you just built a plastic house. however if you have installed solid core siding before then you should have no problems with this. under lock is trickey under windows an top coarse but you wont have a problem with it.

I have done something similar, and that is why I keep an old radial arm saw. Reverse an old plywood blade and go slow.

We have installed it before. Make sure you cut back the form when you over lap the siding. Make sure your window sills are built out. On the eve's and under the window sills sometimes it's easier to run your panel up and then cut a J-channel to stick in and pin underneath when the cut on the panel fall's in the middle. Good Luck
