Re: Large Windows On Second Floors Or Higher.

Ive put large windows in from inside. but thats new construction or existing where you can actually get the large window through the hallways and to the opening. An 8 x 5 doesn't sound large to me. With the casement sashes out should be no problem from inside. two guys carry the window to the opening. With the window tilted toward you slide the bottom out on the sill to the left. (or right if you prefer.) at this point with the window halfway in and halfway out and resting balanced on the sill under the picture unit catch your breath cause your gonna have one chance to get it right. This is the tough part but Ive done it with 10 feet of five foot window. Continue sliding it out to the left with a third guy outside to grab the bottom as it is slid out and help with the weight. finish sliding the window out side of the opening and lower it to get the top nailing fin completely out then slide to the right to center it in the opening. pick it up and pull it toward you into the opening. have the guy outside put some nails temporarily in the nailing fin to hold it in place. catch your breath again pop the nails out and adjust in the opening.

Re: Large Windows On Second Floors Or Higher.

Took 8 guys to pick these two up. Used only the scaffolding. The upper section are casement windows. The bottoms are fixed. They are Pella's and have the double panes of glass on the outside, mini-blinds inside, and another pane of glass on the inside that is removeable. They also have a retractable screen that rolls up inside the top of the winow. The windows for this house were $27,000(windows only, no install).

this window had the aluminum brick mold factory applied, so it would have been very hard to really get it installed from the inside. this thing weighs more than most cheaper windows. the house was tight, sizewise, maybe it would have fit but would have been very difficult for two guys to pick up and carry up the stairs, avoid the railing at the very top of the stairs that overlooks back down into the large first floor living room, and then make a tight 90 degree turn into a narrow hallway and then another left into a bedroom. now way would i try that, it's not even worth putting one gouge into a wall and having to spackle and paint it for the customer. the pump jacks took 10 minutes to setup if that. and it made the whole day easier.
i'll use them from now one. so you aren't holding that weight all the time and also not have to worry about having extra guys on the job that day to put them in. this way two of us did it with zero struggle. the center was one big picture window which wouldnt' come out, so the two casements would have come out but we didn't need to. a few months ago we did the mirror to this window on the other upstairs bedroom and grunted it up two ladders having the casements out and it was still a struggle. and i'm not a weak small guy who can't pick stuff up. these marvins are just heavy units.

i've put in plenty of windows from the inside, but those that dont have trim applied to them already.
