Installing New Prehung Interior Door

I am installing a new prehung interior door and ran into a slight problem. The old door is 80 1/2" and the new door is 81 1/4". Can i just cut about 1 1/8" off of the bottom of the new door and door frame, or is there another way to do this? Thanks for any help

Is it a 6 panel, plain flat, hollow or solid core?

Assuming its a hollow core plain face laminated, you can cut cut off as much as needed on the bottom as long as you strip off the laminate, glue (don't nail it, you might have to trim again) and replace from the little 1" filler on the bottom. Before you cut score it, tape it, and use a good saw blade and you probably won't have much edge sanding to do. Trim the jamb trim back, and if the floor's pretty level you'd have a 1/4" or so clearance and good to go.

Better would be to cut out the header and raise it an 1" or so.
Best would be get an 80" door, but I'd have to guess that's not an option

If I'm understanding you right I think you'd just need to cut down the jamb, not the door, if the door itself is too big, I'd think about exchanging it if it's at all possible.
