installing ceder shake(vinyl) versus traditional lap siding

I'm putting together a bid for a siding job-26 square worth. In giving an option to upsell an Alcoa Cedar Discovery Perfection 7", I'm trying to get a better handle on the installation time needed. One local installer (friend), said he gets $210/square b/c of the extra time involved (they're 64" x 19" panels) versus a typcial 4" DD which is 12' long at $60/square. While not discussing the actual cost/square, does the time take that much longer for cedar style vinyl siding? The installation cost for each turns out to be about the same as the cost of the material per square-is that 'common'?

Aside from figuring materials costs Dont look at the issue being smaller panel size. The real issue is the amount of waste, you cant re-use your cut ends so your going to need to order more. Plus think of all the situations where you had to slightly bend a traditional siding board to fit into a channel your not going to be able to do that with the cedar discovery as it is much thicker. Also remember removing a piece isn't as simple as using a sideswipe tool. When figuring materials remember that your J will be larger, the starter strips cost more, and you need special undersill which is also more expensive. Dont forget how your going to finish at the top of a wall J channel or one of their fancy band boards.
