How To Price Vinyl Siding
Hey I am branching out a bit and have suddenly been asked for a bunch of vinyl lap siding quotes from a new builder. The odd jobs in the past like little sheds or garages I used to just figure by the hour because they were small, but now with whole houses and a couple of them are 2 story I need a little help with the pricing gig here. I am in North East Florida if it counts for anything, it would be cool to have a consensus on pricing this stuff. Thanks!

Re: How To Price Vinyl Siding
not so sure you want to do new construction siding-I've never done it, but it's probably a whole lot different than the stuff I side. If you're working in a 'village', they want the cost low and the speed high. For that, you'll need experience, the right tools and the right guys to keep it moving.
good luck w/ the pricing-most people either won't answer or harass you. |

New construction is the easiest I think. As long as the wall planes it goes very fast. I just don't want to over charge this builder and lose the work. I have a good relationship with them and in times like these there is no reason to offend them with a price thats too high.

Re: How To Price Vinyl Siding
If you don't have all the equipement (including a metal break), and haven't done large volume vinyl installation, (which includes time consuming aluminum work) Don't plan on making a whole lot of money. IMHO: You will propably - barely break even.
Like many other specialty trades, such large-area work is priced competetively, and any real profits are made by speed, volume, and quick-production. It is actually the opposite of your signature line. It's more about "Quantity"... with decent-standard quality.

Re: How To Price Vinyl Siding
New construction blows, we did 6 this year, and I have had enough we will no longer do new construction and we will no longer do work for builders ever again. Everything is expected to be done cheap as possible with the cheapest materials, yet they bitch when it doesnt look perfect. YES there are going to be waves in the wall when you use a $40/sq panel.

Re: How To Price Vinyl Siding
I won't do new construction,its all about speed,cheap materials,and a very low profit margin.
if a customer insists on cheap siding i make them sign a waiver. i usually persuade the HO to go with a good quality vinyl, makes absolutely so snese to take the cheap way out. |

Re: How To Price Vinyl Siding
I find the exact opposite to be true. I don't like the hand holding that is involved in doing homeowner work.
Establishing good relationships with reputable builders keeps a steady cash flow coming in for me. Sure they will want it cheap but who doesn't when you're buying volume. One of my customers has built 39 custom homes so far this year all over 2000 sq. ft. Each one keeps a crew busy for 1-2 weeks. I have no problem giving them a lower price rate. I also do a lot of remodel work but I personally prefer working new construction and so do my guys. I get a lot of referral's from builders also. There in the same industry and talk to other builders or homeowners ask them who they use. You have to weed threw them just like any other customer. There's bad apples on both side of the fence I guess is what I'm saying. Just my .o2 |

Re: How To Price Vinyl Siding
I'm with sidingpro.....you couldn't get me to touch the remodeling market. I'm a builder though...and ONLY build new homes. Its been a couple years since I didn't any homes with siding on them....but the last time I did one.... it ran about $250 a square for labor and materials. That's here in utah....that could be totally different somewhere else in the country. I was doing them myself on my own homes here 6-7 years ago for $160 a square. That is siding only....does not include soffit/facia. I hope that helps a tiny bit.....probably some better answers out there though.

Re: How To Price Vinyl Siding
We are involved with new construction and do 70 - 120 jobs a year that are siding only. These jobs side in a day with 2 installers and are great for training new guys. The guys love these cream puff jobs and with no home owner around they can turn up the xm.
There is no profit as the margins are slim but its nice to have some easy jobs to keep every one busy. |
