How much do I charge? Sliding Windows.

Sorry, I've always wanted to do that

Seriously, I've done a bunch of window jobs in this particular neighborhood and today got a call for another window job, but the lady wants to be different from her neighbors, and have sliding windows (side to side) instead of Ye Old Up and Down double or single hungers

Never installed a sliding window - at least not sober

Any difference on the labor/install side? I know there is a difference on the material side.....

much love

In Florida you need to be licensed to install windows, MHM Construction Services is not listed with https://www.myfloridalicense.com/wl11.asp I suggest you get appropriately licensed.

Not really, in my opinion they are about the same to install.

One thing about the sliders. Make sure the bottom track is perfectly shimmed and not over tightened, or the window won't opperate propperly. You got to be a little more careful than with a single hung. Hope this helps.

As far as pricing, why would it matter if the window is a SH, DH or Horizontal slider?

I have a formula (proprietary information) I use when bidding on windows, and the type of window is not factored into it.

One thing you want to make sure of when doing a residential window change out, especially if going to horizontal sliders is you maintain the minimum correct net free opening size for egress.

I can look the code up for you and post it, if you need it.

How wide are the openings the client wants horizontal sliders installed in?

Hey bwalley, Do you check every contractor for their appropriate license?

Don't you have something better to do?

I am all for getting the hacks out of the industry, but man, you are something else!

I only look up the Florida licenses, what clues me into a guy being unlicensed is stupid questions like was posted in this thread.

Florida has the highest standards in the United States for contractor licensing and I am happy we are so strict, but it still doesn't keep unlicensed hacks from bidding on jobs they are not legally allowed to do or are unqualified to do.

One thing I think is great in Florida as well as many other states, is a person can hire an unlicensed person to do work for them, refuse to pay for it, and the unlicensed person cannot sue or lien them.
