Re: How Do You Guys Attach Your Aluminum Fascia?

I'm talking on the face of the board. Once I slide it under the shingles I pull up a couple tabs and nail it there. Those nails get covered with the tab so there hidden. Then underneath I put a nail at each seam and one in the middle.

So each 10'6" board 8 nails holding it evenly spaced out.

I've ran a lot of siding and trim.

Check these windows out.

Here's some exterior skylights I did over the summer.

Patrick,

Next time I'm in the field installing some I'll try to take some pics for you. It's easy just hard to explain.

Here's some trim on the job I'm currently working on. I bend my channel into my freeze board to receive the fiber cement.

Hey sidingpro, Thats some nice looking work, next time I do hardie siding I'd like to use that aluminum idea for it. What kind of brake do you have? On that last link How wide is that top bend for the soffit?

Thanks

I've got the tapco pro3. The only brake I would ever consider using. The rest are weak to say the least. IMO

I don't understand your question on th last link?

I make my pocket 5/8 and put a power bend in it to put downward pressure on the soffit.

Sidingpro, I was just asking cause that bend looked smaller to me for some reason. I have a Vanmark mark 1 brake and maybe i'm crazy but I swear I can't bend anything like that under 5/8". Will the tapco do it or am I crazy?

The trick to bending under 5/8" is fairly simple if I can explain it clearly.

If I take a piece of scrap coil and place in my brake it under the piece I want to bend ,to say 1/2" ,I can get that bend. The piece of scrap coil will need to stick out past the face of the brake at least the width of the bend you're trying to make.Slide your work piece in to the width you want on top of the scrap, then tighten the brake and it should make the bend.
Basically you're bending two pieces together.
If I'm going to need some 90 degree bends,I get both done at the same time.

I nail from underneath the fascia/rake and 'pop' up the drip edge so slightly to nail. At the end of a run, I'll drop two nails in the face, but they aren't seen as the next piece covers them.

In the gable I cover the drip edge up and on on hips I bend my own matching drip edge.

The cheap stuff the roofer's put on is junk imo.
