Re: How Are Atrium Double Hung Windows?
I'll be getting 19 of the Atrium 8300 series windows installed in my house. I can't really comment on how they are from personal experience, or from an installer's point of view, but looking at the ratings compared to the other windows I've shopped they seem like a pretty decent window. Not sure if it's standard with the 8300 series, but they are double glazed with the argon gas. Unless the brochure is fibbing, they are Energy Star rated, and have a U-value of .29..... just a couple of the things I was of looking for in a window. Some neighbors of ours just had some put in their house, and they like them. They have a family friend that installs the Atriums so they've used him for a previous house they lived in as well as her mom and dad's house with no complaints. They've referred him to many other friends as well, and from what I hear, those people have been satisfied with the window. Some other windows I've looked at were Simonton (6000/6500 series I believe) and Polaris. I've tried to compare apples to apples as far as features go. So if I'm looking at Simonton's, I've tried to go Polaris or Atrium with the same features like argon gas, double glazing as well as all the other seals of approval that they can receive (i.e. Energy Star rated). I'm getting a great deal on the Atriums so that's what I'll choose. As far as I can tell, we'll be in our house atleast another 5 - 10 years, and I don't think I'm giving up anything in terms of quality with the Atriums just based on the quote I received....because price was a big factor (when isn't it).

Re: How Are Atrium Double Hung Windows?
The first i had ever heard of atrium was the thread before this one when the guy can't think of his handle hear was going with those for replacement windows. I have followed this forum for a while and i have never heard of anyone bad mouth anderson windows. The guys around here consider those to be pretty much the cadiallac of new construction windows.
