Help with cleaning marked up vinyl siding.
So, I was up on a roof today doing a re-roof on a trailer in a trailer park when a sudden gale force gust of wind came up and blew a few shingles from my bundle off the roof and into the next door neighbor's trailer. Marked up the vinyl pretty good. What is the best thing to use to get the black off?
Gas? (I'm sure it would work but I'm scared)
WD40?
Mr. Clean magic eraser?
TIA.

Try WD40 first, then goof off. WD should do it and is gentler than goof off.

I'll try WD40 tomorrow morning. Hopefully it doesn't make a shiny/new looking spot. Otherwise I'll be putting a coat on the whole place.... hey, it works for decks right?
Thanks

It may leave a shiny spot but it should get the asphalt off. Goof off doesn't shine, but I've seen it discolor dark blue siding, almost like it faded. No problem with tans that I've noticed.

Any tire cleaner will work. Bright White, foam or you can go to Sherwin-Williams and they sell some cleaner that works real good.

WD, It will even take caulking(osi) out of your clothes if you get to it before it dries. Wipe dry and shine disappears.

I'm not psychic, but I predict very noticeable "clean spots" and you'll be doing that whole side of the trailer.

So how did it work out? Are you busy putting up new siding?

Sorry I didn't post back, been busy fighting the weather getting the roof then siding done on this trailer. If its not raining or hurricaning, then it's -14 outside. Coldest morning in 40 years a couple days ago.
Bit of WD-40 and a lick of spray nine and she's good as new.
The owners almost wouldn't let me do it, he said hes got some of Shell Bussey's magic siding cleaner/conditioner that will make it look brand new when he washes it in the spring.

Excellent! Between WD and those Mr. Clean erasers, I've almost never had a mark I couldn't get off. The tricky part is doing it in a way that you don't wind up cleaning a couple of squares to make it blend in.
I do not envy you one bit, trying to work with vinyl in sub-freezing temps. Good luck with that.

I was thinking that I really ought to have something excruciatingly pithy to say for my 500th post. So here goes...
