Heavy Bi-Fold Door Hardware

Does anyone know of bi-fold door hardware that is specially made for a heavy door.

This door was actually heavy enough that it bent the top piece where the door slides. The bottom piece that was supposed to hold the door up was actually spring loaded. Needless to say as soon as the door was set on it, it dropped right to the floor(installed on tile).

I was just wondering if any of you had run into this problem before. This is a very high end house and the door needs to be fixed right.

A year or so ago, we built a set of French bi-folds for a customer to close off her dining room. A pair of traditional French doors would have blocked staircases, closets, light switches, windows, etc.

We bought four 18"x78"-1 3/8", 5-lite doors and hardware from Raybern's in Somerville, Mass. It was made by Hettich International and was their model 1500 folding door hardware.

The top has four rollers that run inside a channel. It wasn't cheap, but then, again, the Stanley bi-fold hardware sold in your local home improvement store won't hold up a set of doors like this.

When we last visited her (about a month ago), the doors still appeared to be hanging just fine.

Good luck!

I can honestly say I never saw bi-fold hardware with a spring loaded bottom pivot pin. How are you supposed to adjust the door height??
