Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
I have just recently taking the plunge to starting my own buisness in illinois. after years of doing siding and roofing on the side I got tired of missing out on jobs due to the fact I wasn't insured and bonded, so I said screw it so here I am today, the question I have is on I am bidding on job that has hardie plank siding, what I need to know is where the average price per square is, now that I am insured does the price change that much compared to when I wasn't insured, due to overhead's, general liabilty, comp etc. etc. Any help would greatly be appreciated, thanx's.

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
Sure it changes, you have to cover those costs, you would like to eat after this job. I wouldn’t know an exact number to increase, but factor in your cost and incorporate it into the bid. The tricky part is getting the job with the bid you submit.
My 2¢ Even though I am new, I am going to welcome you to the site. |

Insurance is easy to figure since it is based on either payroll or sales.
Just as an example, let's say the insurance company want's 1% of your sales for general liability. The answer is simple raise your prices 1% or more to cover my costs. Just an example let's say the insurance company wants 19% of your payroll to cover your workmans comp. You need to raise the labor portion of your price 19%. Minimum $135 a square for labor profit and overhead. Plus trim work, soffit, fascia freize board. That's what I pay my subs. What part of Illinois? If you are good at it and near to me maybe I can throw you some jobs throughout the year. I do about 5 fibercement jobs per year, usually new construction. |

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
I live just outside Des Miones, IA, and on new construction I am getting about $140-160 per square plus $4 per LF for soffit and facscia. For me I have different prices for different GC. Some guys around here are putting it on for $90 per sq including Soffit and fascia. Thats crazy i wont touch vinyl; for that. Good Luck!

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
in jersey there arent many people doing hardie, its a specialty, a very good friend of mine gets $1000 sq installed and painted, his cost is just over $500 with material and complete labor, he is making a killing on that product, there is alot of call for it with these upscale areas, i would love to get into the game, but i dont have the skilled labor to do it and i dont want to get jammed up with someone doing it the wrong way, but there is a ton of money in that stuff. I need to find the right crew.

"Your price per square is pretty much in line but your price for soffit fascia is half what it should be."-Grumpy
Thats $4 per lf for each fascia and soffit total $8. Sorry bad wording. Hardie plank is so easy to get around here. The news ran a story last spring about how the dust causes cancer no alot of these sissys out here are scared, like they dont smaoke 2 packs a day to go along with the 12pk a night.LOL |

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
Cut the fibercement with fibercement shears instead of a saw... or use a saw and dust mask with a collector.
I believe silica dust has always caused cancer. FIbercement has been around for awhile in one form or another. |

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
How do you charge for soffit and fascia when you have porches or soffits greater than a foot?
When we install gutter we charge so much per linear foot and corners are considered 3ft. Also the price goes up $.05 for each ft. higher than 8ft. high. Is this how you would charge for soffit and fascia as well? I am just trying to get a better understanding of how soffit, fascia, and siding are charged because we are starting to get into these applications. Thanks, gutrman |

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
Prices always go up the higher you go. Around here most of the soffits are 12" or 24" so i charge accordingly. If the porch is 6 ft wide its $24.
I'm not a big fan of the shears, i use all my old framing blades in a worm drive that is ancient. Always have a mask, i hate coughing that crap up |

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
Do you charge extra for brick houses and corners? Also, we are talking labor and material included in the price, correct?

To be 100% honest i dont know hy... I try not to correct him in business, he kind of does his own thing, i keep it on a very light level , he does some other things which he doesnt need to do , but i once had a conversation with him about it, and he got kind of offended, so let him do what he wants. I am just blown away with the markup of the product here in jersey though, and he isnt the most expensive guy by any means, people are willing to pay good money for that product and there arent enough skilled contractors in jersey to do it. |

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
Gutr, I'm just talking labor and corners are included, though window/door trims are extra.
I'm curious what the mark up is on that product because here, even the guys who charge an arm and two legs for vinyl usually give away fibercement at about the same price I do. Just like all my services I make a fair ammount of money without raping anyone, but also without giving my services away. My only guess is they pay their subs alot less money than I do. |

Re: Hardie Plank Siding Per Square
I would bet your work looks 10 times better. You get what you pay for. Around here, builders want to pay $45 sq for vinyl and 1.25 a foot for 2-way.
And thats not subbing! I can go broke watchin tv. Im not gonna do it on the job! |
