About the same price you charge for vinyl - maybe more - maybe less - depends on you

Hint #1:

I didn't get any easier or harder to install.

Hint #2:

Call your supplier for the latest pricing of materials.

Re: Hardie Plank Siding

you ALWAYS charge more for a hardi install. its more labor intensive than vinyl and obviously the material costs more. keep in mind you will probably wind up using azek for all the trim and thats expensive .
hardi has to be cut with a saw,its dusty as hell and it has to be caulked with some flashing. you have to be getting about 850 per sq for that stuff at least.

Re: Hardie Plank Siding

i am pricing it right now also. if we are talking about installation on the west coast of Canada, you also have to install rain screening where as you don't have to with vinyl, i think it's at least double the labour than vinyl if not more, plus Hardie is more expensive by about 20%. i think the best way to price a job is to figure out how long it will take you and then add materials plus add 10% to 15% more just in case you miscalculate. which you could decide to give as a discount at the end if you did well. I think this would make some one happy, and you would get referrals.

Re: Hardie Plank Siding

So figuring on installing a rainscreen as well, i come up with a price of around $9.50 per sqft for materials and labour. what do you guys think.

Charge 2 to 2.5 times are much as you charge for vinyl because it takes 2 to 2.5 times as much time to do. If youre having a lower ratio then your just a slow vinyl siding installer

And think of the paint

I'm not a painter but for remodels I've sometimes priced it painted because you can paint the stuff as you rolling down your pumps jacks its much faster than having a painter come in and with ladders.

Rain screen is the ONLY proper way to install hardi or wood IMO

Re: Hardie Plank Siding

Obviously pricing is a regional issue. But Hardie and vinyl are not on par with each other. $Hardie > $vinyl by not an insignificant amount

Oh, this thread was about hints.

Know the installation details and don't short cut them.

You are correct. I was thinking only of basic clapboard style.

+

That's a reginaol thing as well. 10 years in GA and have never ever seen a single home done in rain screen, even on high en homes with a hardi and stone mix.

But here in Qc it's the total opposite; every single house is done in rain screen.

I am not really sure if it's required by code in Qc. After all they still allow log homes and faux log homes to be built and those dont use rain screens.... ?
