Yeah, well, I installed the interlock on the outside of the Frenchwood operator panel on the first one I ever installed. Reaction?:thumbup :. New construction lends itself to improvisation.

If this is a renovation job, there will be sattelite expenses due to dealing with siding and interior trimwork that needs to be addressed, but as a point of reference, I could install both of them properly on a vinyl sided house complete with interior trim for $1,100 labor and make money. My travel expenses to DC would have you at best breaking even.

Based on the above and the reassurance that it will definitely be done in one day... it is not too good either

Nearly every house I framed for 15 years or better had Andersen gliders in them, if they had gliders at all. Did an assload of Alcoa vinyl sliders there for awhile too. I'd install Andersen 2-1 over them and have a much nicer final installation.

If it's a brick veneer and the swap out
is a vinyl slider, $1500 would only be
a starting point.

You would be doing well to get a guy like Loneframer to take this on, no doubt.

But it has been my experience that retrofitting a door in an existing home has few things in common with the production environment that Lone was referring to.

Without all the facts that a site visit would flush out it is impossible to say if $1500 is a fair price or not.

Anyone committing to a number without all the facts are probably looking at winning on some and fighting their way through others. After all the dust settles over the course of the year they would probably be just fine. Some customers are effectively subsidizing others in a situation like that.

All that said do you have the ability to post some detailed pictures of this door complete with existing rough opening measurements? If so this thread would be more contained to the helpful side. Without all the facts all of our ADD kicks in and well you see where that leads us.

Gus, you make a solid point. I would never commit to a job sight unseen. There are many variables that play into an install like this. If , in fact, the doors will fit in the existing openings, $750 a door seems to at least warrant a second and third opinion. According to site conditions and other variables, $1500 may not be out of the realm at all.

Not sure why you went blabbing on past that.

Unless that solid point comment was only referring to my confidence in your abilities.

Re: "Gliding" Andersen Doors

I have fixed a few andersen subcontractor sliding door installs, and would recommend using a local window and door replacement company that has been around for at least 10 years or more.
