I guess you just recalled how you started your professional career
The attitude on this forum is outrageous. Let's face it - the majority of the "professionals" in the "handyman industry" are just like that: started this business after realizing how easy it is: to open a box and just follow the instructions, the customer is going to pay for the "learning curve". Now everyone is just proud of his bravery and makes sound voices of satisfaction pocketing easy money... Bless you!!!

I got he needs a doorologist with a md in Andersenitis.
I would check Craigslist.
Or just have HD put it in. It will still cost you like 500 bucks to have it finished after they get done with it.

I have installed several hundred Andersen Perma Shield and Frenchwood gliders. There is nothing special about the installation. As with anything, if you've never installed one, you may want to refer to the instructions. Be careful with the interlock weatherstrips that have to be installed on site, according to left or right operation, as they are universal. If you mess that up, you cannot make an acceptable repair in my opinion. Not that I have ever done that before. The last job I did with them had 12 PS units. 7 hours with a helper who assembled the frames while I finished the installs. I'll probably never get another building with 12 units, so that will stand as a lifetime best for me.

I have a workbench that is 1/2 of an Andersen slider with 1/4 ply over it.

Thanks! Finally there somebody's sane around here ... never said I want to do it myself, just wanted to confirm my suspicions that $1,500 installation quote is wa-a-y overinflated. Too bad you'r located too far from DC...

I never have installed an HD Andersen product, but have installed many Andersen products direct from my lumber/millwork yard. Just my 2 cents, but I think they are two totally different products.
|
If you buy an Andersen 400 series from a lumber yard or from a big box, you are buying the same door - no difference.
Same with 200 series door. Doesn't matter where you buy it, it is produced by the same folks, on the same lines, in the same factory.
