Are you talking about the 'I Drive'? That's the only one I know about. Why are they so against that brand? I've installed 3 in the past couple of years, with no callbacks. I'd sorta like to know if they are failing in the field, so that I don't install any more.

(Consequently, remember when NuTone still made garage door openers? Those were the days. They made tons of stuff people would have never thought. Built in blenders. Built in bathroom scales. etc.)

Yeah they have the I drive. One of them quit working after it was in for 2 years and the other works fine. The women does not like the ones that "hangs down in the middle of the room" I have searched for hours trying to locate another brand but have found nothing. Im going to have to call around tomarrow to see what turns up I guess. Maybe a big commercial one hanging down at the edge of the room might work. Hope I find something I know of a nice garage door that would love to have the working one on it.

The Amish use ones like these, since compressed air is okay: http://www.globalspec.com/FeaturedPr...umatic/27007/0

Just in case you need more search terms... In the most generic speak, the traditional garage door opener that hangs down in the middle is called a "trolley opener" and the one that mounts to the side of a commercial torsion spring door is called a "jackshaft opener".

They make some now that mount on the header and the shaft goes through it, assuming she has a sectional door. My father in law is a garage door contractor and I will ask him who makes them and post later if you would like.

Do a google search for "liftmaster"...that is the brand my door supplier sells and the price isn't bad. I just ordered 3 today for the building we are working on...the 1/2 hp opener is good for the 24 wide by 16 high door we are putting up.

I just replaced 3 I-drives with brand new units, the originals were only 1 year old. the only way that the openers would work is with the doors a little on the heavy side.

It's a great concept but not as reliable as it should be.

Try this link http://www.acd-usa.com/805series.html
it is a commercial DC drive unit similar to the I drive, but is belt driven. If you go with any direct drive unit that attaches to the torsion shaft, you should make sure to include pusher springs see link http://www.garagedoor.org/commercial...art/RS-36.html
to help the door into a vertical position as the door may not move as fast as the opener initially, and you need to keep tension on the cables.
