Fypon Window Crossheads And Vinyl Dentil
Hey,
I just found this forum (out of a couple online ), and liked what I was reading. I am currently working on a new construction site with these PVC foamish window Crossheads that do not have a snap cover like louvers. Now, I am new to siding (2 solid years) and only have installed these types of trim inside a house. The house has 6.5" deep beaded siding and these cross heads, by manafacure instruction, to be installed over siding like shutters. I was drying fitting the crosshead above the window, and imo looks like crap due to the fact its not perfectly flat. I asked the builder, he suggested 1x8 behind the crosshead and J channel so it hides behind the crosshead. I was wondering what you guys thought or done. Inside the house I was able to get away with 2 screws and some 16 gauge nails, will that cut it for exterior use (with the caulking the holes)? This is the most similar picture to the cross heads I could find by googling fypon vinyle crossheads traditional style.. Ok, for the vinyl dentil, I have to install it on a gable. The rakes die into a facia roof line. I can bend the metal purdy and make it nice and neat, but there isnt any blocks I could use where they meet at the top. This dentil is 6 3/4'' tall and 2 in teeth, but the whole piece is 3.5'' thick. They come in 4 foot sections. I was thinking of cutting a diamond shape out of the extra pvc sheets I got, and just fur it out so it goes over where I cut the dentil (hiding the cuts). Where the bottom pieces of the dentil, I was thinking of cutting them flush to the roofline (I am kinda scared it will expand too much though since the sun hits the roof all day). I was wondering if you guys used this Vinyl dentil. This is the first time I used this, and Ill figure it out, but I rather it be done right the first time. Thanks |

Re: Fypon Window Crossheads And Vinyl Dentil
The only problem with 1x8 wood under the fypon is the swelling, water seepage and sweating resulting in moisture damage.
I prefer to bend an extra wide header from aluminum with incorporated drip and flashing in place of the 1x8 and in the height of the fypon.Install core board underneath and built up to give it support. "J" channel as normal then screw the fypon to it.Counter sink the screws and dab with sealer. 6" crossheads I assume? |

Re: Fypon Window Crossheads And Vinyl Dentil
Ok,
So the guy, who actually taught me siding, showed me a couple ways we had done this on previous houses. I put a 1 x 6 about a quarter above windows, and then I wrap it. I put J channel and caulk it. Finally we put those skinny, pain in the rear, 16 finish nails. Dentil, I made a diamond out of coil. I put it up and butted my dentil against it. It looked bad. SO, I mitered the dentil (as if it were pvc) and followed it down the gable. I made another diamond this time I bended all weird. The top flaps I hooked over the dentil right under the soffit. I cut the diamond to fit over the dentil perfectly. I used caulking under the metal to connect it to the dentil and to hide where it hits it. I made it big enough to go over dentil teeth, where I used 2 rivets. It looks nice... ![]() |
