Question

Fypon J Channels?

Hey guys, one of my workers said he heard of buying fypon in sheets, ripping 1x4 trim boards and then rabbitt cut them to use as j channels. The 5/4 with a 3/4 rabitt sounds OK and it may look nice but never did it. Anyone ever done it? Hints? All responses greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks. Any special installing techniques? Do I have to use glue and nails or just nails?

Re: Fypon J Channels?

i am pretty sure you can buy fypon sheets with a j already built in to it. why fypon, buy some azek sheets. azek DEFINITELY come with a 3/4 inch j-pocket. azek does not have to be painted whereas fypon does and i also think fypon is more money. more importantly, azek is much more durable. you can also use restoration millwork from certainteed.
when using 5/4 sheets without j,just route out a j with a router bit.

you could also pack out 3/4 stock the siding thickness.Whether you rout out or pack out you should install a metal drip cap to keep any water out of the window head

Side windows are covered by eave so no sweat, but how would I install metal drip edge over rabitted aztek/fypon? I see your point and it's a good one, silicone will not hold up?

The siding will be vinyl, so are you saying I should use one of those tight sill pieces on the top to hold the vinyl piece over the drip edge?
