Absolutely. But i don't think you need historical society clearance if its not designated a historical house at the time of remodel. But now on the other hand if it is then you can't do anything on that house without getting there clearance. I think they can fine and really hurt a homeowners feelings.

Here, a historical building has to have the siding replaced with the original profile.

Once upon a time, there was a guy with a mill that made siding. It is a siding unique to this area and very effective but every board has to be manufactured to meet 'historical' standards.

It doesn't bother me, I love this kind of stuff.

When I read the original post, I became worried... for the contractor. I immediately got the bad feeling that the owner might try to rope the contractor into a high-dollar "historical rennovation" at regular remodeling prices. Perhaps that fear is unfounded, but I have a pretty good nose for all the possible ways to get screwed.

The only people who can answer that question is the historical society who has jurdistriction on the house you are to work a. They usually have their own covenants in addition to the local building codes. We have done some work in "historical districts" and we always charge extra for the headaches involved.

I have a standard clause in my proposals which states I am responsible to meet building codes however it is the purchaser's responsibility to make the contractor aware of any society or association covenants and restrictions.

Speaking of historical societys those ones on the north shore are probably nothing nice grumpy. I have a buddy who lives in lake forest they wouldn't even let him cut a tree down on his property.

Re: Fiber Cement Siding

Thanks for all your responses the house is not historical at the time. The client said in two years it will be. I think the client is ********************ting me. I checked with someone in the society and they said its not a historical sight and will not be in the future. Thanks again.

I guess as a homeowner I wouldn't want cement siding if it would effect the resale value, when I could have used cedar and been fine....
