Feedback On Corners With J Pocket
Anyone out there used the corners or trim boards rabbited out in the back in conjunction with fibercement. Restoration from certainteed is what I am looking at although there are others I have seen. What kind of problems have you encountered? Are you applying caulk and pushing siding into it? They seem like a good idea for if nothing else they might hold down the butt edge of the siding and keep them in line. Thanks!

We use trim solutions out of CT awesome product and the nail fin is much better than any other product we have used. kinda pricey though at about $9.50/ft

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing. What I am looking at is sort of like azek (pvc). There is no nail fin. There is a 3/4 by 3/4 pocket rabbited out of the back of the board.

This company takes 5/4 azek routs out a pocket, and then heat welds a nail fin to the back so that you get a real reveal on the face of the siding

i am using a similar product from "advanced trim wright" out of mass. they route out a 3/4 inch j-pocket. we have to trim ours out using some insulation board in order to accomadate a 1 1/4 pocket needed when using cedar boards insulated siding.

That sounds very interesting. So does that mean you are not face nailing the corner at all? Also how are you caulking, before, after, or both?

Re: Feedback On Corners With J Pocket
NO face nailing. The heat welded nail flange is similar to that of a vinyl window with oval shaped holes. We install the corner over the building paper, and then we tape the seam with 9" window tape. we then apply a bead of caulking behind the siding as we go. If we are using vinyl, then we skip the caulking. They also make beautiful window trim that goes up nail less, all put together sized to any window.
