Favorite Colors?

Thinking about re-siding my house...BUT...everyone and their mother has the "beige siding/green trim(capping?)" thing going....looks kind of generic now.

My house is a Cape...the windows were all replaced over the years with white capping.

I certainly don't want a purple/pink combination.... I want something that looks different, but not outlandish. I was thinking something like beige and some shade of burgundy(?).

Ultimately, it MUST have some "curb appeal" for the drive-bys when I sell in a year or two (or 5..LOL) ; NOT show dirt like white siding does; and be basically "maint. free" (which limits me to vinyl, correct?)

Any suggestions from the peanut gallery?

Re: Favorite Colors?

White trim looks best IMO. With white trim, I like harbor gray, village green, pebblestone clay. For two tones, pebbleston clay and wicker look okie

TOH and BM are selling 'classic' colors, maybe a trip to their sites might give you some inspiration.

Re: Favorite Colors?

Okay, you helped me out...

Personally I would go with something that looks weathered on a Cape Style house something between a grey and brown, is burnt umber a color? and the white trim always looks good, anything goes with white.

I did a brick cape cod house quite a few years ago, a deep red brick with black going thru it, and then on the dormers I had a wood looking vinyl siding, the beige with dark brown streaks to simulate wood and it actually killed the look of the vinyl, I was half impressed.

Can I still have the orange?

Speaking of brick....I had the porch re-done a year or so ago....I think it was called "Charleston"?

Kind of like this:

... it has some sort of a mineral in it that looks like a hot tar machine exploded on it.

The railings are all white aluminum power coat...and the windows are a 6 over 6 grid in white also.

Re: Favorite Colors?

How about white or cameo scallops in the gable ends, and cedar impressions or carolina bead 6.5" for the rest, in wicker or green, with white trim.

Re: Favorite Colors?

I did a job a few years back(must find picture)
Siding was Kaycan triple3,terra verde in color.http://www.nulogicdesign.com/kaycan/colors.cfm?colid=2
Trim and window caps were Alcoa classic cream.
Windows were Eagle in pine needle with burgundy grids.

This is what the customer wanted
I was skeptical to say the least but hey,who am I to judge and possibly lose a big contract.
I'm not a huge fan of Eagle or Kaycan but Pella was twice as costly and Kaycan had the color and profile he wanted.

This was a 100yr old two story and it turned out(to my surprise)very nice.
Never underestimate the color coordination of a gay man.

Re: Favorite Colors?

I did a year or 2 where everyone asked for Pebble Clay. Its played. How about a beige siding with darker pebble clay like trim. Usually the cutomer pulls three colors into the equation Siding, trim then a shutter color to match the front door. I was against that beige with darker trim scheme at first but it came out sharp. No third color either. As for the "deco" I would definelyt use the perfection shake over the scallop thing. And any grey siding looks very "beachy" or nantucket like.
