Fan-Fold Install before or after J-channel,starter, and corners

Just wondering what is prefered. I've installed both ways depending on the thickness of the window casing and trim. Was always concern about the J-channel sticking out to much passed the casing.

Thanks for your opinions!!

I have always put it on first, if the trim/casing is too thin then see if the customer will go for padding it out and bending new metal. Its more money but will look nicer in the end. You can also buy vinyl trim too with built in J-Channel to build out the windows.
