Exterior Door On Windy Coast

Customer needs me to replace an exterior door. The main building is on the coast and it gets very windy. The last door didn’t hold up because the wind grabs the door and rips the automatic door closer off. Senior citizens open the door and the thing practically rips off the building and slams into the wall. Previos door was cheap steel skin door with foam interior. Anyone have an idea other than solid wood that will hold up? It’s especiallY important that the area near the top of door is solid so I can mount a closure system that can handle a lot of force.

Building is a residential condo. It’s a side door going into wood framing with vinyl exterior. Basically same idea as everyday residential home

Get a commercial grade door - you can have the same issue with solid wood over time

Where is the closer - inside or outside? If inside you might consider going with exterior so the wind fights the closer as it is opening - maybe see what Hager & others have for situations like this

Yes, a commercial hollow metal door with closer reinforcement. Install closer with sex bolts. Use a good quality closer with back check, not some Chinese crap. Your wood door frame is going to be your weak link, next.

Fire code most likely won't allow it.
