Exterior Casings With Integrated J Channel?

Can exterior casings be put around a window that has an integrated j channel?

Yes make sure you have 6" or better window tape around the flanges, and I usually set the new casings into a heavy bead of caulk. sometimes I will even bend some U channel on the break to fit into the J pocket to A) prevent water from getting in there, and B) to give some surface area to put caulking on and set the new trim against.

I do not have any pictures at my immediate disposal. It looks alright as long as the casing that is currently on the vinyl window is not a brickmould profile because then it will look kinda stupid and stand out as having double trim. What kind of siding are you using? Most window companies have an L fin adapter that covers the J pocket so you can use regular siding.

Whenever possible I try not to use caulk. Sometimes you have no choice but caulk eventually breaks down.

I was going to link you to some pictures but it says I need 15 post's before I can post URLs.
