Did I Miss Something ? (Clapboard)

I gave a ballpark price to remove and replace clapboard and the customer loved the price.
Job consists of removing old clapboard (200yrs. old) and replace with preprimed clapboard with 4 inch exposure. 2 Story 48 x 22. Tyvek or similar.
2 Coats of paint.
Thats it. No trimboards, no casing. If my calculations are correct I need approx. 3,000 LF.

What would you quote this at ?

I will post my ballpark later.

Figure out your profit and overhead per day then multiply that by the amount of days the job will take and then add your materials with whatever mark-up you want.

You are punny my friend. How much were the materials (cost)? What are the specs of the materials? Is this a historic house? Termites behind those walls? I am always leery when the HO is estatic with price because it makes me wonder if I over-looked something.

Re: Did I Miss Something ? (Clapboard)

What are you replacing the clapboards with. Cement Board? I will play. You said remove all clapboards. Replace 2 coats of paint and tyvek. Are you planning on painting the soffitts. Ok i say 15,000 dollars. Somewhere between 12,500 and 15,000 dollars. So if your bid is under that i would be extremely happy as a homeowner going with you. Actually i would be happy with between 12,500 and 15,000.

The materials are 3K. Replacing with preprimed cedar clapboard. This is just the front of the house. Any damage/insect activity will be additional. I will say I made him happier than 747 would have.

Do you have insurance? Are you licenced? These are other factors that must be taken into consideration.

Re: Did I Miss Something ? (Clapboard)

Let me clarify what I meant by ballpark : My "ballpark" price included the already known materials cost ,labor cost ,markup and profit. My unknowns at the time of my discussion with the homeowner were primarly permit issues and whether the neighbors on the street would use the dumpster as their own and require me to obtain a second.

I know what my price is !!! I just thought it would be interesting for who ever wanted to participate, to see what different companies would charge for a relatively straight forward job.

Have some fun.

Re: Did I Miss Something ? (Clapboard)

well agian you know your price yet you still ballparked! first you should of had a commitment in writing. before you left with statements in it contigent upon these factors you addressed. now what you have is a ball parked priced in the customers hand and truth be known if i was coming out there behind you to estimate thast job i would not only close the deal but would have your price for future reffereces when i ran up against you agian. point being close it boy get the commitment. also you'll have trouble finding anyone to post a price on here. but if you would like to post your numbers we'll all be glad to see them :}

What I find most interesting is that, The two guy's that have the most to say on this post have only been registered users for a month or so. They've got more posts in one month than I do in one year !! Now that would be fine if most of their posts were on a positive note,But I've gone back to check some of their posts (Nothing but negative) or very in your face opinions. I'd take what they say with a grain of salt.
