Cement Board Siding Issues

We recently began installation of Nichiha sierra premium shakes (cement board panels) on a large home. There are some small surface imperfections- mostly unnoticeable- but the homeowner complained and the manufacturer is going to replace all the siding.

but who will pay for the reinstall- the homeowner thinks it should be me. has anyone else had this problem?

Anytime I had to take down siding covered under manufactures warranties the manufacture paid me to take it down and re-install it.
You should get paid for your original installation by the customer then the manufacturer should pay for the tear off and reinstall. Plus, the manufaturer should pay for all freight.
That's the way it always worked for me.

If it is that recent of an installation, they should be paying you 100% of your cost.

how is it your fault? Tell ho they have to pay you and let them duke it out with manufacturer. Unless you provided materials, in which case i guess you have to duke it out with manufacturer. Bad situation.

Check with the manufacturer literature/web site/packaging in the box. Alot of times it will say 'installation of product means acceptance of product' or 'warranty covers replacement of product only'. If they are a large company they will cover your labor.

Is the project finished or was this caught ahead of time?

Good luck

Re: Cement Board Siding Issues

Who talked to Nichiha about the problem, you or the homeowner?

And if it was the homeowner, why wasn't it you.

And if it was you why didn't you ask them about this.

Talk to your regional Nichiha rep and get him down to the jobsite. Ours will show up if there is a problem.

Re: Cement Board Siding Issues

I install Nichiha for a living. I first would ask did the installer notice the defects when it was installed. If not then I would say good luck replacing the panels. You should have at that time called your distributor for more product and they would have replaced the product for free at the time of install.
That being said, if the product failed, then Nichiha should pay for the demo and the reinstallation. If it is a stain issue Duckback stain will cover the cost of the restain and the company should be responsible for some payment to you. But as said by the others, didint you discuss this at the time you spoke to the rep. How long has the product been up.

As long as it was caught before you installed the whole house, and even then, the manufactoror makes good. Ask them, that is all!
