Caulk Quality

When I install vinyl replacement windows, I've been using OSI Quad caulk where the vinyl clad capping meets aluminum siding or brick. In some cases, the caulk has been cracking after a few years. Has anyone had a problem with Quad cracking? Is some other caulk better for my application?

Thanks,

Ralph6

Re: Caulk Quality

I only use it a few times a year when I need to color match.

We generally use a modified poly for all exterior caulking applications.

I use nothing but quad. I think it is an excellent product and nothing I've seen comes close. I've gone back to jobs that were several years old and the stuff still looks great...And that is here in WI.

Re: Caulk Quality

Quad will harden and shrink over 5 years time. The other downfall is that it shrinks a lot after it cures.

Dynaflex 230 is a great latex caulk and it has 100% solids. So what you see when you apply it is what you get. It also passes the ASTM standards for cementious siding and it's not as sticky or stringy to work with like Quad is.

I've been using Titebond Weathermaster Sealant for exterior stuff for the last year.

I like it.
