Broken Sliding Glass Door

I think I already know the answer to this..but what the heck...toss the stick and see what happens....

My son broke the tempered glass of the sliding door today, throwing firewood down to the porch rather than carrying it....hmmm.

Replace the glass?

the door is old, but I don't want to do it..... I know the new door will be more efficient...this one is 25 years old..but i still don't wanna!

Anybody ever replace just the glass?

I imagine the price of the glass itself + the installatin of the glass will be pretty spendy eh? Maybe its time to to install a french door......*sigh*

thanks in advance.

Go with the French door, - - why put that same money into something old that could be better invested in a 'new-born'??

Re: Broken Sliding Glass Door

I think what we are going to do is move the Kitchen/Great room slider...just the sliding door part that was broken in the basement.....TO the basement...and install a new frenchie in the Kitchen/great room....

New french door w/ side panels probably...we had one of those in Phoenix...besides the great room slider is way looser than the basement one....talk about drafts...brrr....anyway, thanks much for your help.

One other thought....accidents are covered by insurance correct? If I have a 500 deductible...think its worth it?

Re: Broken Sliding Glass Door

i wouldn't all they owe you is replacment glazing and that shouldn't hit your deductable unless its an andersen and you need the whole panel. remember frenquency also affects your rates so maybe better to save the claim for something big
