Question

Braking Metal For A Brick Exterior?

Had a potential client call me today to finish off a set of french doors that her husband put in. The door is vinyl with a channel to accept the metal on the door side. The gap between the door and the brick is small (< 3/4") and there is just some fiberglass stuffed into the gap between the door and the brick. My question is how do I secure the metal to the brick side? I'm guessing just bend the metal into the channel of the door and try to butt the metal as best as I can to the brick and caulk? I have done some metal work in the past but it's not something I do everyday (or even every month!) and have never had to work against brick. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
Lance

You are at one of those "head scratching moments" where we get creative.

Re: Braking Metal For A Brick Exterior?

Ive done something like this with stucco- I snapped a line around the door at the width I wanted. Used a hand grinder and cut a kerf into the stuccol( brick in your case). Then bent my metal to return into the kerf. .

Unless I am misunderstanding the situation you just need to rip a piece of lumber to fit in the gap, bend the metal in a u shape, slip on and caulk.

It would help if we had a picture to get an idea if possible.
