it goes up in sheets of 4x8 4x9 or 4x10, lots more trim usually though. Depends on the job I guess.

My son and I are doing old fashioned B+B now on a 2 story 72x32' home. we have 8 days in and still have the front side to do. Have had some other time consuming issues come up since we are the GC's also. We have lap cedar lap on gables which also took some time. You have to hustle on this stuff to make some $$$$$$. When you come back to batten and trim windows it take some time unless you throw it on probably about 1/2 again the time that the actual siding takes. I figure the front that we have left will take us a heavy three days with soffit that's 72' long 2 stories. Hope that helps.

Yeah,I know it comes in 4'x sheets. The project I was bidding has 12" ribbion with the siding going up about 3/4 of the windows then shakes running into the soffit.I figured the 4'x8' cut to the height I need would go good and the battens would eat up some time. The window, door and corner trim I bid normal $per ft.This is on a hip roof rambler so most of the time I'll be standing on the ground.I think I got the bid if my supplier can get the products the h.o. wanted brand X for the battens and window trim. The supplier gave me a take-off with some smart trim (windows)and some real cedar(battens & corners), H.O thinks the two products are going to paint different. One of those deals where the h.o looked the product up online and it says we offer 1x2,1x3,1x4 etc. and the suppliers supplier isn't.

Consider this

Even with the Vertical F/C siding you will need a batton every 4' on the seams (according to the directions). I'm doing one right now.

I got the bid! question, I want to follow product instructions and put all battens and seams on studs 16'' O.C..Another bidder told H.O. you can put them where ever you want nailing in to OSB (covered with tyvek)H.O. wants some 18" and some 24" what would you do?

If they do not hit a stud you can screw them to the OSB. Of course better on a 16" pattern or whatever the studs are, have to cover seams with whatever pattern. 18 to 24 a new one on me?

Installation of B&B is faster... and to me IMO easier... If you can do 12" on Centre installation 12" hardi sheets are easier to manage (than the big sheet 4' wide. It's easier because the sheets cover more area, sure you have to batten afterwards but there is a really fast way of doing that... and also make sure you figure out where your battens will line up before starting.... keeps the notching around wierd things to a minimum.

First it's not what the customer wanted.Second I won't install vinyl or aluminum. If I bid a insurance job roof and siding(vinyl or alum.)I'll sub out the siding. Same with soffit & fascia I will only install wood or factory made products (cementfiber or cellular pvc). Why ? Because I personally think vinyl and aluminum looks like crap. Some think I'am selling my self short, but I have a way of being and I'm sticking to it live or die.

Is LP more forgiving than Hardie? I find Hardie trim to be very unforgiving in many ways, is this stuff easier to work with? Same stuff/different brand?

I took a quick peek at their site.

The smart trim is 1000 times better than hardie. I won't use the hardie trim if they gave it to me free.

Sad thing is that the hardie reps force it on them almost and I have to talk them out of it.

This will be my first time with LP, I've allways used real wood or cementfiber for trim.

thesidingpro, I hope your right I was a little nervous about the 2'' battens spliting. My sales guy said I might want to hand nail them.

man, the new sales man is pushing "Hardie nails" hard! Is it that big of deal vs. other siding nails?
