basement window install

about to order some basement hoppers. need to be ripped out of cement,no big deal. that said, for a cleaner look, should i order the windows a bit smaller and screw in some poplar or pine into the concrete to use as a frame so it can be painted. of course the window will now go into the poplar or pine opposed to the cement. i think it will look better. opinions?

is there a steel window there now? Or a wood window? If its a steal window, leave the frame and install your window into the frame. If its wood, rip it out down to the concrete, and install a Pressure treated buck frame to install your window into.

Tin Man, what are you doing to finish the inside of the window on an unfinished basement. We've been just ripping 2x4's and ram setting them into the cement around the window after we install it. Do you do anything more attractive?

If it's a wood frame what we do most of the time is order the window to fit the cement R O. It give you a little bigger window and a real clean job.

frame opening with wood according to style window used , 2x6 ,2x8 ect measure opening when done , . install window insulate , trim out inside to match existing , bend a cap with a brake for out side making sure sill cap is beveled away from window , helps to use concrete to make a slope before capping , caulk with silicone where necassary
