Agreed, there are two places where those can be bought around here. Lumberyards though, not siding suppliers.

Re: Asbestos Siding.

I used to nail siding right over the asbestos panels. The problem with doing that is; the nails crack the panels, and you breathe it in bigtime! I am now under a doctor's care, the effects are very similar to asthma, except that there is nothing you can take for it. If I live long enough, it will likely turn into lung cancer, however up to now it is only a minor inconvenience. I am 71, still work everyday, and I will probably die of something else, like in a car accident with my wife at the wheel. Just a word about asbestos siding; it is entirely benign on the walls of a house, weathered for many years. However, if you disturb it, the little particles that release have jagged little edges, when they get into your lungs they are there forever. The immune system will reject them in time, this is where the asthma-like symptoms come from, and these particles will not cough up. Take it from one who knows, leave it to the home owner to deal with. If you are not sure it is asbestos, just look at the picture posted by Gene450, that's what it looks like.

NJ is pretty lax now.

Homeowners can even take it to the dump in their personal vehicle Imagine that?

They even dump it down the road from me at Edgeboro landfill. I used to pay an abatement contractor 4 bucks a foot to remove and dispose of it for me. They wore masks and tyvek suits and covered the ground with white poly, They would wet it down and double bag it taping the bags shut with duct tape.

You can get non-asbestos replacements at any good lumber yard.
