Any truth to the Florida Low-E rumor...

I heard a rumor through our window supplier that there was something in the 2006 Supplement to the 2004 Florida Building Codes in regard to making Low-E glass a requirement in Florida. My understanding is that it is currently being required in Georgia and Texas so I could see Florida following suit, but I've yet to hear (or read) anything definative.

The double layer Low E will save the people from FL some dough on their AC bills. My mother bought a new house down their a few years back, it had single pane glass a no Low E. Everything we sell is Low E with argon, double pane or triple pane.

Wish I had Low-E in my house. The issue is that we have an inventory of windows without it and would have to turn this inventory before any change to Florida Building Codes take affect. I have only heard rumors and have read the supplement, but I can't find anything on it.

Low E glass

Joshua
I N.Y. they don't MAKE you use low E glass on renovation and new build, BUT doing the metcheck to meet the energy code it's easer to install low E glass then put more insulation in the walls and ceiling

New energy code

Currently, the new energy code goes into effect December 8, 2006.

I don't believe that it specifically requires LowE windows, but I do believe that it is likely there will be a need for dual pane LowE windows to meet the requirements of the new code.

It really is long over in Florida.
