Andersen Window (1983ish) sash cord issue...

There are two double hung andersens in a house im working on that are stubborn...one has a broken sash cord (window will not stay up) and one has a "looping" sash cord (the cord is bound somewhere and loops at you when opening the window). when i say cord, it is more like a nylon string than anything, and they are exposed to the world in the sash track (can be plucked like a banjo string). these windows do not tilt in and the rest of the windows in the house work properly.

I am familiar with old old rope and weight windows, as well as new new windows. somewhere i missed ever working with this type of window. any help would be great. thanks.

hey 27 you can get new balancers from the factory (1.800.426.4261). you need to identify which ones you need. its determined by glass size, measured from the interior. factory refers to this as the daylight opening. simply measure the glass you see don,t add for the glass behind the stiles and rails. or you could pull the screens and look for the window number. you'll get complete instructions for install but you do have to remove sashes and liners to acess the balancers. remember to walk the cords back to the balancers or you will break the caps. also trim guys would fire trim nails into them so you may find a nail or two. identify your windows as NARROLINE series. luk
