Yes, more often than plastic.

My own sales are aluminum only, when subbing about 50/50.

Why what?

I don't sell plastic because I think it is junk and a crime against the homeowner.

Of last two companies I subbed for, both predominately sold aluminum windows.

I have this windows in my house, installed over 25 years ago. Not a single sag, not a single defective sealed glass unit.

you will get sag and seal failure if you are using a cheap vinyl window. a high quality vinyl window will not cause such problems. in fact, some vinyl windows perform much better than wood.

On occasion, but not very often. Mostly only in bathhouses at parks and campgrounds. Because of the transfer of heat and cold we don't use them in climate controlled environments, also a moister problem in heated spaces during winter months. Condensation.

Thanks for the responses. I wonder if there is still a market for aluminum replacements. I ask this because, I have a complete set of milling tools for "mason" extrusions that I am trying to decide what to do with.

I believe aluminum performs better than wood or vinyl here in Albuquerque. Our altitude )1 mile above sea level) gives us high levels of UV and thus significant degradation of the plastic. Wood dries in the hot (95F tops) dry (10% humidity, sometimes less) climate. Aluminum doesn't mind the UV, the heat, or the dry. Our climate is mild enough that the additional heat transfer has little effect.

I'm sure in warmer climates they probably perform fine. Anywhere else though they are pretty much obsolete... Although I am sure that you'll find a few old-timers who like them. They don't like plastic windows OR that fancy fuel-injection crap in newer cars.

What heat transfer? Ever heard of a thermal break?

Plastic windows are sold like beer; the target market is lower class, lower income, and lower intelligence.

Most of my customers are wine drinkers.

Wink

Well that settles it, aluminum goes with wine. And here I always thought it was cheese. What should I sell to a whiskey drinker? Mark also

aluminum windows are still a mainstay for the commercial applications some come with thermal breaks, they hold up very well in storefronts and high rises.

What areas exactly do aluminum windows outperform a high-end vinyl product in residential application? Energy-efficiency? Warranty? Price? No, no, and no..... That isn't wine you're drinking my friend, its Kool-aid...... Seriously though, there is a place in the market for everything. Making a blanket statement that "plastic" windows are a crime against the homeowner is ridiculously uninformed....How well are those aluminum windows meeting the new tax credit standards? Just wondering?
