we have aluminum sliders with sheet rock returns.. are the frame widths on older winders more narrow than new ones..new ones all seem to be 3 1/4". are the older one's only 2 1/4" ?

Re: Aluminum Window Question

A lot of the old aluminum windows were 2 1/4" frames. We would also build fixed units with 2 1/4" tube stock for curtain walls.

Re: Aluminum Window Question

Manufactures offer many frame depths...

Traco, who i worked with for 10 years had a 4-5/8" aluminum door tr8300 and a 5-5/8" tr81000(discontinued) and now i think they have a 3-1/4" door the NX830.

To answer your question i dont think frame depth has anything to do when the door was made.

Re: Aluminum Window Question

yes, newer windows will be deeper so you will be losing the sheetrock. you could either re-sheetrock or replace the jamb with pine and paint it.

SealantEngineer

What years did you work for TRACO? I worked there between 87-89 and 97-99 in engineering.
