Subpanel Update
Finally snapped some pics of a subpanel I updated at one of my past kitchen jobs. What do you think?

Re: Subpanel Update
Certainly looks neat enough. What's the brand and catalog number of that panel? All those quads concerns me. I'm reasonably sure that panel is not rated for non-CTL quads.

The inspector was very pleased with the subpanel upgrade. I have to ask, what the hell does non ctl mean?!?

Re: Subpanel Update
How can you say with such certainty?
That does look like a 20/40 panel. I would just be wary if the panel was rated for those exact breakers. I would have used a 40/40 (or 30/30) as you obviously had the room. I'd much rather have a full sized breaker than a twin or quad. I consider them a last resort. Neat job though.

Re: Subpanel Update
I just can't say that for sure. Perhaps you've had some exposure to Murry equipment, but I've never put in that brand in my entire life, and I very rarely ever get to work in a Murray panel. When I see that many quads and tandems, that automatically raises a red flag for me. Perhaps it is okay, but it would warrant investigation in my opinion. The fact that I know now that this panel passed inspection causes me to believe that it is okay. E1's simple statement that they are "FINE" without other substantiation wouldn't be enough. A catalog number would be. Matters little in the end, however. It passed inspection and it looks neat. Things that raise red flags at first blush are often violations, but not necessarily so. It's good to have intuition. Those quads sure do look like non-CTL's, and that would definately be a CTL panel.
CTL= circuit total limiiting. CTL breakers have a rejection feature that only permits them to be installed on buss stabs designed to accept CTL breakers. Non-CTL breakers will plug onto a CTL or a regular buss stab. Last edited by mdshunk; 12-03-2006 at 12:30 PM. |

Re: Subpanel Update
I am looking at one of the extra breakers from the subpanel and the are indeed class ctl breakers. I have updated probably 20 subpanels over the years for homeowners and have never had any issues with inspectors and the load centers I have used, in fact I get compliments on everything I do.
Thanks for the concern though mds......I know who to private message if I have a code concern

Re: Subpanel Update
Between your disappearing posts, your tasteless "Rate my wife" thread, and your totally pompous attitude, you certainly making a name for yourself around here real quick.
BTW, Speedy refers to racing cars and motorcycles, not that it matters to you. You know what they say about guys who tell you how great they are. They are usually.... not.

Re: Subpanel Update
"Look how great I am."
"Look at my wife." "Look at what I have." "I AM the man." All statements of someone who makes decent money, has a trophy wife, drives a Corvette, and has a REALLY small penis. You know, in real life, I usually don't give guys like you the time of day. I don't know why I am now. Oh well. I'm done.

I think this is some fifth columnist. He's someone who used to be here but is no longer and he's just stirring the sh!t.

Re: Subpanel Update
I just wonder why a guy that is so good had to register under so many user names? He just registered yesterday as "CT E1 MASTER", and re-registered as "E1 MASTER". Did the master forget his password from the other day?

Re: Subpanel Update
Definately not a popularity contest. The votes are tabulating. Now you guys leave the boy alone...fighting with him is like having a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
