Service Entrance Cable Without The Service Head

Guess it just wasn't in the budget.

Or maybe since the house is for sale and has been for some time, the POCO rigged-up a temporary service. I had a neighbor who had his service like this for two years after a bad snow storm before he could save up enough dough to get the new service.

I saw tons of those in Jersey.
It's legal and widespread in some areas.

See:

230.54 Overhead Service Locations

(A) Raintight Service Head Service raceways shall be equipped with a raintight service head at the point of connection to service-drop conductors.

(B) Service Cable Equipped with Raintight Service Head or Gooseneck Service cables shall be equipped with a raintight service head.

Exception: Type SE cable shall be permitted to be formed in a gooseneck and taped with a self-sealing weather-resistant thermoplastic.

Whats a joke are the gutters also. Those aren't very big down spouts. Big rain storm i could see water going over those gutters. That must be the cheapest they had.

Depends how old the house is. Once upon a time around here thats just how it was done. Thats not bad, I could show you some real scary setups.

I see quite a few like that in my area. Many are on a pole for a camping trailer or a campsite out in the woods. I've never seen a problem due to this method.

I always look for crap like this when I'm out driving to/ from work whatever. I had no idea an installation like this was so widespread and legal.

I worked on one today where the SE had a little clamp on weather head. Overhead feeder from pole to garage. Cute.

Huh? That's how a "normal" SE cable weatherhead is.

Really?

How does one go about calculating for gutter/ leader sizing?
