Twelve trips to India and I tried to find something like that, but could not since each was only a couple or weeks long. I am sure it exists, but only in the older remaing parts of Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmadabad, Bamgalore and similar cities.
You will find it in the villages when they need power for the computers and HD TVs and the existing has not kept up with the rapid increase in development during the past 20 years. With 1,000.000,000 + plus people it takes a long time. Back-up battery sytems are common and eliminate the micros second switches.
All of the plants we were involved in were had all the power necessary, but continuous reliable power envolves extra cost because of the reliability. Because of the very short outages during development and improvement it is necessary to have short term alternate systems to prevent loss of data and services. Ols fashioned diesel generators wil work for AC and most plant operations for equipment. Because the country is bases on technology, power for computers take priority.
The service to a plant looks crude to a foreign eye, but it is really quite good and everything inside the plant had to be done to international standards.
India is a very fascinating place to visit because of the clash of old traditions and leading edge technology. Very, very safe and great people. An Indian company just bought Jaguar and rover from Ford for cash.
Not a place for the traveler that wants luxury (it can cost you $300/night and dissappear when you walk out the door), but wonderful for someone that wants to experience where the future is coming from. When you go on line for help or reservations you may get a mature, well educated person with a background in the local language (English), but it may be a Indian High school student that is trained by an American company that will not pay the rates that older Indians demand. They cannot hire qualified technical personnel that will do the job.
You may not see it, but on many homes/apartments you will find two separate sanitary drain lines. One for normal sewerage (toilet, sink, disposal) and another for "gray water" (other sinks, showers, bidet, etc.) to reduce the water treatment load and provide water for exterior cleaning and watering.
Sometimes, you do not need a ladder to run power to the TV (for CNN, ESPN, BBC. etc.) because the home may be an abandoned section of 6' or 8' concrete pipe or brick walls dug 2' into the ground and mounded 4' up to prevent water from running in during the monsoons. No wood construction at all because it is temporary and wasteful. Several cities use more brick/block than the entire U.S. Everywhere you look you see something hard to believe because of the conditions and modernization. -If it does not makes sense it must be true (in the end).
I will dig up some construction photos and post them later.

i think most people here do realize that without our vets we would be in deep ####. however because someone starts a thread about the electrical infrasructure of another country in an effort to show how substandard another countries systems are, and begin a harmless discussion about that does in no way imply a lack of appreciation for our vets or our country. unless i am missing something here wtf.
