Re: Lookit These Beauties!

The funny thing is I'm not shocked or surprised, disgusted is how I feel, when will people learn. Everything in the picture is now available at the local Walmart out here, even the romex which isn't legal to use anywhere around here.

Good stuff, its really hard to believe, some people are this stupid. Its not even about craftmanship, they are just too stupid to realize how things should be done. its not even rocket science.

Re: Lookit These Beauties!

Hey come on guys,
It was prolly just a well meaning guy working out of trade to save enough money to put his kids through school - now maybe if one of you had VOLUNTEERED to help ........

Oh BTW , I have this little project coming up .......

No seriously

When I first moved into this house I decided that one of the rooms needed a couple of more outlets (like maybe more than NONE on a twenty foot wall), so I located where I wanted the box and started cutting with my keyhole saw. I heard some clicking as if hitting a nail - no problem. When I had completed the cut, I realized I had outlined PERFECTLY a buried open box with wires inside tapped off ..... F-ing LIVE wires !!!! (Hey, it saved me snaking new wires )

Had a family room re-do where the guy was running 6 can lites on a dimmer all on 30' of lamp cord fed from the furnace disconnect. All of his wall boxes looked like those in the pix, except that they were steel boxes.

Good thing the saw survived

Just recently, a house we completed seemed to missing an outlet come trim out time - my contract states I do not trim until after paint!
So everything is painted, no one recalls exactly where the outlet is..."normal" methods to locate the box have failed (the wall is like the ocean....very wavy)....
the GC doesn't want to patch and paint....
NP, but that costs extra as I have to use a sophisticated piece of electronic x-ray equipment and a stud finder...
GC agrees to my "fee" for this delicate surgery...

...his jaw drops when the "stud finder" enters the room....

He pooped his pants when I grabbed this "sophisticated piece of electronic x-ray equipment"...

Zircon®
i700-MultiScanner i700 OneStep Stud Finder and Scanner
(cost: about $50.)

....and found the buried box in about 10 minutes for mucho dinero

This is from a building I'm doing some work in. This building has 4 seperate 13.8kv services (one on each block) and Lord knows how many panels and transformers. Here's one of the panels that's not being used but is still energized.

Re: Lookit These Beauties!

And that's exactly how I found it! I normally don't mess with stuff that I'm not told to mess with, but in this case I had to do something. I disconnected it and tossed it into the garbage.

Re: Lookit These Beauties!

I want to know if I got all the goofs in the pics are the first part of this thread...see below, did I catch evcerything?

1. Romex sheath is to terminate INSIDE the box
2. Wire "nail strips" are plumbing hangers
3. Should have drilled in the center of the studs to run the wire anyway
4. Runs generally look like crap, and should be WAY straighter and tidy

Did I get any wrong? I'm trying to learn from other's mistakes...

Nah, this is strictly a warehouse. Built in 1929. All concrete floors and nothing fancy anywhere. I suspect it was an electrician who did this who just needed power. Still no excuse, just sayin'...
