I Can't Stand Slobs Like This.

Doing an LED retrofit in a bank. Popped a ceiling tile to bypass the ballasts in a couple PL cans. This is what I found.

I hate *****wads who do chit like this.

Worst I've found was empty paint cans and other trash from the painters.

Have to agree that's not my style either. If need be, I'll do an extra 60' round trip of kneecaps on joists in a 120° attic to clean up after myself (and sometimes others).

Actually had a HO give me a $50 tip one time due to that. He crawled up there to snoop after I was done for the day and left. Realistically, 95% of them would never know--but I would.

Re: I Can't Stand Slobs Like This.

I have done a few Home Inspections over the years, and seen a lot of collateral damage in crawl spaces.

It reveals the caliber of contractors the pervious owner has done, and it tells me what work has been done.

I inspected a home for my younger brother, and the old homeowner, keep asking me why I wanted to look up in the attic, and there wasn’t anything to see. Of course I looked anyhow, and discover large pieces of plastic drop clothes and buckets. Somewhere in the past, he had a leaky roof that he fixed.

Not how I leave things either. But I see it all the time as well.

I've had many GC's over the years drop their jaws when they see I can also not only operate a broom and vacuum, but actually have them on the truck.

I hate that we have that reputation, but I think it's earned by our lazier colleagues.

The trades do have that reputation for sure. On a positive note though, one can exceed that reputation with out too much effort. In many of the trades in these parts, if one answers the phone or replies to voice messages in a day or so, and arrange to meet the owner, he/she has the job. How long they have to wait or how much it will cost doesen’t really bother them.

In a attic yesterday blowing some insulation crushed beer cans, cigarette butts all over the place, new build may be four years old.

I like when HVAC guys leave nut driver sheet metal screws all over the attic. I stock up. Same for the electricians and the insulated staples.

As for electricians or plumbers. I think it is more a matter of do I want to pay you 110 bucks an hour to sweep, or pay my helper 12 bucks an hour and make my mark up on him.

Now if my subs would give me an actual flat rate and stick to it, they can sweep all day long.
