Gas Station Violation

This really makes you wonder. I have to assume these conductors were deenergized but that's quite an assumption. No, I didn't check them to see if they were live or not. Would you?

I wouldn't.

What is the problem (other than the obvious - missing cover, etc)?

Re: Gas Station Violation

I'm no expert on wiring gas stations, but isn't that a regular 4x4x2,1/8" metal box? And shouldn't there be an explosion proof box? I'm thinking electric arc + flammable gasoline = extremely unsafe.

The funny thing (not literally but u know what I mean) is that there was a sign nearby encouraging customers not to use their cell phone to prevent sparking.

I can't measure the stub-up from here...but you were there and may have same idea of dimensions:

Is the box above/below the 18" threshold?

There is also a lateral dimension to consider, as well .

Re: Gas Station Violation

Those seals are about 10" high off the ground.

So are you saying that this box is ok if it had some sort of cover/ face plate on it?

No...LOL.
The box is bad for a multitude of sins.

Re: Gas Station Violation

Someone broke off the original cast weather proof box and the maintenance guy relaced it with a 5 square cause he couldn't figure how to thread a new box on.

Then somebody hit that one to and bent the box and popped the cover off.

Next someone will try to steal the wires.
