Re: Could You Make This Bend?

????

This is all one needs to make that bend (and of course a tape measure and pencil):

I've been called pipe god too, then the alcohol wore off and she asked me my real name.

Are you guys allowed to pack conduit with sand before bending to prevent kinks or is foreign material inside conduit a no-no?

There's no need with metallic conduit, since the code has a minimum bend radius. If you stick to that, or greater, you won't really kink metallic conduit.

In the past, in the early days of PVC conduits, guys would fill the conduit with sand while they were forming the heated bends. This took a lot of the heat out of the pipe, and had to be done like a Chinese fire drill. Greenlee has these plugs out now that you seal the ends of the pipe before you start to heat it. This traps the air inside, and it expands slightly to hold the conduit's round profile. Works pretty well. It's still pretty easy to kink up larger PVC conduit if you don't have your head screwed on straight. I like to form the larger sizes in a bending shoe anyhow. If I have multiple identical PVC offsets to do for a rack, for instance, I sometimes make up a jig on a sheet of plywood. That 15 minutes to make the jig saves a ton of time and yields a very professional result for the rack of offsets.

The time to get it and recover it is.

Can you imagine the costs to clean up after a large job?
The sand getting into wire pulls, switchgear, etc.

Under the via-duct?? No, this building is on Jersey Ave and 16th street. Whenever I work there I go to Delfino's on 5th in Hoboken. I'll bet you know where that is!

The covered highway...

...this area.

Those buildings are in this area.

I did work in one of them....long long time ago....couldn't tell which one exactly at this point in time...but I think it's the one with water tower on it (the far tower, not the close one).
Shannon's pub was right across the street...gone now.

Delfino's must be "new" (less than 5 years old)...I've never heard of it??? Then again, I haven't worked in Hoboken in a number of years.

I do like (In no special order):
Ben Tadino's (sp?)
Biancamono's
Lisa's
Seven Star (until it shut)
Arthur's
Micheal's (until it shut)
Piccolino's (might have the wrong name...makes a great cheesesteak, by Observer Highway)
Biggie's

I'm getting hungry now....

In JC...right in that area...2nd St. Bakery....but not for the pies....turkey with mutz and gravy!

Re: Could You Make This Bend?

That's the building!

It has 4 seperate services, one on each street (4 streets).

13.2 primaries, and 4160 secondaries throughout the building.

The company I work for does maintenance-type work for the primary owners of the building.

You know Hoboken better than I do - that's for sure!

I "think" I may have done a sweatshop or some FA work for a tenant at one point in my life....
Nothing exciting like the primaries tho'

At the Northern tip of Hoboken...at the end of Washington Ave...where Corizine has a dwelling (he's the Gov. for the out-of-State folks)...that building used to to all sweatshops....my, my, my how things have changed ...now million dollar pads.
That building was a place of high employment for me.

Next time you're there (that property or Hoboken, in general)...if you have the time/desire:
Arthur's for steak (3rd/4th & Wash.)
Bianc.'s for COLD Italian sammiches (12th/13th & Wash.)
Lisa's for HOT Italian lunch (9th & Park)
Quick pizza is Bennie's ...HUGE slices ~ like 10" across at the crusty end LOL...good too! (6th/7th & Wash.)

Vito's is another good sammich place (Italian...duh...8th/9th & Wash.)

So many places to eat...Texas/Arizon, Baja...I could go on and on

You could be a big fat bast*rd if you worked with me

I worked in Hoboken for a lot of years....always a good lunch, NO MickeyD's for me

I make those bends by just using the pipe as a belt:

Oh behave!

Re: Could You Make This Bend?

I will consider all those places next time I'm out that way. Right now I have projects going on in Chatham, Milburn, Short Hills, Livingston, and Bayonne. I'd like to pull the hair out of my head some times. Did I mention Caldwell? That too.

Re: Could You Make This Bend?

That can't go completely around... If that bend is more than 180 degrees around the column, how did the electrician get it onto the column after the bend?
