Could you make this bend?

My answer is I don't think so.

Is there a formula for making this bend?

I believe this conduit is either emt or aluminum, it may even be ridgid (I didn't check it).

I doubt it.
Interesting, trying to get all 360 out of one bend.
What does it do behind the column?

I would TRY to use the column as the shoe, get it started, strap it really good and push it around by hand.

simple math, just find the diameter, then multiply by 3.14. that gives you the circumference. Lay it out on the floor using a string line and pencil, start bending. Will fit every time

I doubt this bend has less than 360 degrees of bend over it's length. The column is probably at least 270 and there's a 90 right at the box...

No way. ESPECIALLY if it's rigid. That column looks like 36/48".........

I could do that in my sleep and with rigid, they don't call me Pipe God for no reason. I am just kidding about that part, that is some pretty impressive bending I could only dream of doing something like that. I wonder how many tries and how many came out of that guys mouth when he was doing that.

I'm thinking the column was used as the bending shoe.

I would just start making 10 degree bends every three inches or so, then put it up and use the column as the shoe to straighten it out.

Back in the day I could write my name in conduit, but if I were to try to bend this, I would not have a plan or take measurements or anything. I would just "wing it", make many small bends with the bender and hope I don't put any dogs in it.

I would close my eyes and channel the force of all the electricians that have gone before me. The lights in the room would dim and a thick fog would roll in and hug the floor. Bolts of lightning would appear all about the room and a deep rumbling sound would come up from the earth.

My hands would be guided by unseen hands, but the bend would come out perfect....

I've actually done that type of bend many times.

When I first started out in the trade, one of the guys I worked for wired up sweat shops in Hoboken and Newark. The sweat shops were usually set up in large buildings that were like 100 years old. Those columns were all over the place...and although you would try and avoid them sometimes you just couldn't miss them.

mahlere got it....segement bending.

I knew you guys would love this bend.

This picture was taken in the old Lackawanna Railroad building, built in 1929.

You need to put a flexible (what you call it in it first) then make the bend. This way it won't kink.

Its like a special snake that is specific designed for to insert into piping or conduit for bends to prevent kinking.
